The artist selected has been David Mutiloa. His work examines the 70s and 80s decades as an inflection point in which modernity began to dissolve, when the utopia turned into despair and impotence and into the sudden consciousness that history is becoming a chain of irreversible automatisms, destroying the future and transforming time into repetition. In that way, the work he wants to develop at Gasworks could be seen as a battery of research instruments to test some patterns of emancipation that ended up becoming the market’s symbolic allies. But also it can be analysed as an allegory of the present.
Gasworks’ residencies are opportunities for self-led professional development, artistic exchange and experimentation. The Residency Comprises: - 24-hour access to a fully accessible studio at Gasworks, alongside other visiting artists and Gasworks’ permanent studio holders.
