to be familiar with this rich and varied range of possibilities in order to incorporate them into day-to-day life in families, schools, libraries and other educational, cultural and social settings.
Enhanced reading materials
This is an initial step (beyond merely digitising a work) towards producing interactive digital content and refers to reading materials that feature texts and multimedia archives, chiefly audio and video, and interactive or gamification elements. There are many examples produced for children and teens, especially in the form of applications that even feature complementary activities (drawing, writing). As a rule, readers can decide whether they wish to interact with these added features or prefer to read the story in linear fashion without any “interference”.

The main disadvantage of works of this kind,
in addition to the complexity of creating them, is that they require sophisticated programmes and the audio and video components need to be produced and edited beforehand. This can entail purchasing music licences and filming equipment and hiring audiovisual editing professionals or can involve community managers, making them experiences that go much further than writing.
What is more, distribution is limited, as not all kinds of portals offer content of this type, nor can it be read on all types of devices without adapta- tions leading to the loss of the multimedia con- tent. But there are already many excellent examples of such products, and AppTK.es,76 the first recommender of reading apps and app books for children and teenagers in Spanish, was created in 2016 to give them visibility. It will be examined in detail in the last section of this report.

Interest in products of this type varies greatly. It has already been pointed out that they can be very remarkable if they go beyond advertising lures and are designed to enhance the aesthetic experience and reading experience. They can provide readers with alternatives (listening to music or not, watching a video or not), fuller knowledge (listening to a piece of music men- tioned in a text, accessing a documentary about a historical event), reflections (on the meaning of a video in a particular passage), different ways
