The challenge of the digital transformation of the culture industriesPepe Cerezo, @PepeCerezoIntroductionSince the emergence of the WWW some 25 years ago, the process of digitisation has been transforming sectors and businesses, upsetting balances and the models established since the industrial revolution. This process has not been homogenous – either in the speed at whichit has occurred or in the impact it has had on industries and sectors.Owing to its very complex and multifaceted nature, the culture industry deserves a thorough analysis. In some cases it is a semi-regulated sector in which the host of public and private agents involved make it one of the most interesting with respect to analysing the digital transformation.Digitisation, in addition to transforming business processes and models, has an impact on people and teams. It is therefore necessaryto identify and encourage the new digital skills that are required to properly meet the demands of the digital ecosystem. Digitisation likewise involves rethinking the role of culture in an environment that is less hierarchic and more open, participatory and dynamic.Based on an analysis of the current state of the digitisation of organisations, the aim of this article is to point out the risks and opportunities for each of the subsectors.Point of departure. 25 years is nothingEver since Tim Berners-Lee1 conceptualised the WWW twenty-five years ago, we have witnessed the start of the digital revolution, whose social, political and economic impact on sectors, organisations and professionals we are now beginning to perceive in its true dimension.
