One of the latest contributions we have wit- nessed in this field is the Storytel platform, which recently spread to Spain and has published the profile of readers of audiobooks based on its user data.48

We thus learn that 48% of those who listen to audiobooks are aged under 35, and that 43% of listeners listen to 6.7 books per year on average. Smartphones are the most popular devices used for this type of reading. And, as in the case of Nubico readers, public transport is where listen- ers do most of their reading (52% of listening is done on public transport). But there are other settings such as car journeys (27%), walking and playing sport (25%).
Do we have a real idea of reader profiles in Spain?
All this data gives us a rough idea of what people who consider themselves readers in our country are like and what their reading interests and habits are, though the fact that it uses different criteria and methodologies hinders the joint interpretation of these reports and infographics. In addition, it omits all the people who are read- ers without realising: for example, people who spend a long time reading news on the Internet
