Language and Origin
Saint John of the Cross tells us that in order to arrive at what you do not know you must go where you do not know.
The antithetic values that have progressively defined inner space are the same ones which have marked out the ambivalence from which to develop a meaningful relationship of opposite values, so that silence has finally given language a sense, just as space had made possible the three-dimensional experience of sculpture.
In my view, innovation does not act by pursuing an objective but attempts only to find out what is pursued, and explora- tion therefore transcends the old sense of purpose. Every act of creation designs new codes, and therefore every innovation has something undecipherable about it.
Creativity is like a breakage, a dissolution that synthesises, relates and creates instability, always shedding doubt on one’s own convictions. It is furthermore the best antidote for prevent- ing a theory from becoming dogma, as creativity succumbs when a barcode is established for interpreting the real.The origi- nal seeks the answer in trial and hypothesis, incorporates change and disorder and provides an unplanned response at all times.
In the forest of languages and codes, and in the absence of an answer, these codes end up determining our conduct. Therefore, distinguishing what is not a disguise or archetype or, on the contrary, knowing how to recognise them, is how we can know something about what we are and where the edges along which we move are.Whenever we seek the fissure between the innate and the acquired we are exploring origins. Distinguishing that which is neither code nor learning is thus the best manner of recognising the unprecedented.
To create is to dare to name that which lies in the crack of difference, evidencing that which no longer represents us.
