One of the main purposes of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) is to promote and dissemi- nate contemporary Spanish artistic creation within and beyond our borders. It does so both by encouraging the presence of Spanish artists at international contemporary art events and through monographic and group exhibitions.
The exhibition Ideas K, a retrospective of the sculptural work of Fernando Sinaga curated by Gloria Moure, springs from this wish to promote knowledge of current artistic produc- tion. In this particular case, Fernando Sinaga’s oeuvre will reach a larger number of people thanks to the joint efforts of the MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (Spain), the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Alicante and the Centro de Arte Contem- porânea Graça Morais in Bragança (Portugal).
This publication provides the added value of permanence and is intended as a monograph that can be used as a reference work by anyone wishing to gain an insight into the work
of the Salamanca-based artist from Zaragoza. It contains the symbolic, geometric, optical, material and chromatic imagery that permeates the artist’s work from El Desayuno Alemán (The German Breakfast) (1985) to his most recent work. His oeuvre is marked by an eagerness to experiment with perception and space—which also prompts the viewer to engage with each of the pieces—and by a distaste for passing fashions and flirtation with the market in the most frivolous sense. In addition to reproducing the works shown in the exhibition, the catalogue features a text by Peio Aguirre analysing the career of Fernando Sinaga and an interview conducted by Gloria Moure in which the artist explains his view of art with the clarity and teaching skills that characterise him.
At AC/E we wish to express our thanks to everyone who has made possible both the exhibition and the catalogue, especially the curator for her excellent work and Fernando Sinaga for his support and contribution to this project.
