Reading, writing and technology in schools, a sample of experiences under way
As commented in the previous section, digital reading materials have found their way into
the educational realms thanks mainly to mobile devices. Their incorporation into classroom dynamics as learning tools is gradually increasing, just as interest is growing in adding digital works, both fiction and informative, to school library collections.
Librarium, digital loan platform of school libraries of Extremadura
An important step towards introducing digital loans was taken in the autonomous community of Extremadura with the launch of Librarium195 in the first quarter of 2017–18. Librarium is, gener- ally speaking, a digital library. The platform was developed by the department of education and employment of the regional government of Extremadura. And it receives ERDF funds. It consists of a platform for borrowing and down- loading publications, as well as a digital reading club.

Librarium offers 8,000 items targeted at pre-university students and teachers at
state schools. Its aim is to boost the virtual environment of school libraries by enhancing their physical and digital holdings. It is a multiplatform tool and all the functions of the digital library are accessible from computers, e-readers, tablets and smartphones through either the web version or the apps that have been implemented and are available from the Apple Store and Google Play.
