4. The contextualisation of books and reading in what some call media ecology makes it necessary to revise certain reading dissem- ination and promotion practices so that the traditional “book-centric” viewpoint gives way to a more open, transmedia and multimodal perspective.
5. Reading – and less still digital reading and writing practices – cannot be separated from the rest of cultural practices and the changes they are also undergoing in the transition to the digital sphere. Within
the language differences of each cultural expression and how they are perceived by the public we need to bear in mind the many common elements and factors in the development of them all, in the ways of accessing their content and in the experi- ences they convey.
6. Developments in reading interfaces also make it necessary to reinforce spaces for exchange, communication and teaching about the use and enjoyment of digital reading. Just as interfaces regulate and condition reading, so do training and teaching related to digital reading lead readers to reject new forms of reading or encourage them to embrace in practice the complementarity of channels and formats in their different reading itineraries.
7. The development of digital reading does not entail a break with the tradition of books and reading; rather, it requires changes in the traditional structures related to the creation, dissemination and promotion of reading and writing. The idea is to make the most of the advantages the digital environment offers all the agents involved in these processes to create more open and polyphonic spaces for the new forms of storytelling and to provide infor- mation and knowledge.
In this context, information and communication technologies evidently underpin the changes taking place in the educational and cultural fields of our society. A consequence of the new scene ushered in by technological progress is a deep change in the structures of educational and cul- tural institutions under the influence of the new forms of digital and interactive communication.
Therefore, the digital revolution is leading to
a change in social and cultural practices that involves creating new cultural scenes and processes, and the implementation of various institutional strategies. We hope that this report has provided a few keys to achieving this.
