En la década de 1980, los bares y restaurantes españoles vivieron una frenética transformación, se imponía la modernidad de la nueva España democrática. El diseño de interiores, ya no denominado decoración, se convirtió en una nueva especialidad que ha ido evolucionando de forma acelerada hasta la actualidad. Destacados interioristas y arquitectos han participado recientemente en el boom gastronómico español, han apor- tado sus diversos lenguajes ofreciendo el marco idóneo deseado por los cocineros. Si antes el diseñador imponía su escenario, ahora surge fruto de la colaboración con el cocinero, cada vez más protagonista del local.
Esta especialización en la restauración se expande hacia la creación de mobiliario e iluminación específicos para el sector, es el mundo del Contract y el circuito HORECA, donde España cuenta con prestigiosas productoras de nivel internacional que distribuyen sus creaciones con éxito por todo el mundo. Asimismo, interioristas nacionales proyectan locales en las diversas ciudades del planeta donde acreditados chefs españoles expanden su cocina.
In the 1980s Spanish bars and restaurants underwent a frenetic trans- formation as the modernity of the new democratic Spain imposed itself. Interior design, no longer called decoration, became a new specialty and one that has continued to develop at high speed ever since. Outstanding interior designers and architects have recently been participants in the Spanish cuisine boom, lending their respective languages and offering chefs the ideal settings they desire. If, formerly, it was the designer who set the scene, the result now is a consequence of close collaboration with the chef, who plays an ever more leading role.
This specialization in the restaurant industry extends to the creation of specific furniture an d lighting for the so-called HORECA channel, or hotel, restaurant and catering sector, where Spain has internationally rec- ognized and prestigious producers that successfully send their creations throughout the world. Thus, Spanish interior designers are designing premises in various cities around the world where Spanish chefs have established their cuisine.
