Organised by Fondation Lorin in a former synagogue in Tangiers, Tanjazz was started up in 1999 to preserve the city’s open and cosmopolitan spirit and contribute through music to an understanding among cultures. Since its beginnings it has celebrated the diversity of jazz in every imaginable aspect and is open to Blues, Soul, Swing, Rock, Funky and music from all over the world. For four days Tangiers will host 30 concerts, as well as a children’s edition and street entertainment. In its endeavour to bring audiences the best jazz music, Tanjazz includes Spanish performers in its programme every year.
With the collaboration of AC/E, the first day of this year’s festival will feature the Trio Sumrrá, who will perform on the stage of the Moulay Hamid palace. At this year’s festival, which explores all five continents, Sumrrá is the best representative of our country’s jazz scene on account of its quality, creativity, innovation and ultramodern outlook.
