This year’s event, which has the support of AC/E’s PICE programme for the internationalisation of Spanish culture, features Andreu Balius Planelles, one of the most important typographers in Spain, who is performing two activities. The first, a workshop on ‘Lettering and trademark design’, is an introduction to drawing letters. Through different sketching techniques he teaches participants to create logos: lettering is a means of representing the trademark. He also helps design characters that convey values or attributes capable of expressing those trademarks correctly. The second is a lecture on ‘Typography as a communication tool’ in which Andreu Balius deals with issues such as the significance of typography, its functioning, how to communicate through it or what the criteria are for a good choice of type.
