Whitney Independent Study Program, ISP 2015

Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program (ISP) consists of three interrelated parts: Studio Program, Curatorial Program and Critical Studies Program. The programme provides participants (focused on artistic practice, curatorial work, the academic field and art criticism) with the opportunity to develop discussions and debates on the historical, social and intellectual conditions of artistic production. It fosters the critical and theoretical study of the practices, institutions and discourses that make up the cultural scene.

Participants in the Studio Program attend two weekly seminars with a prominent artist, curator, historian or social theoretician where their work is discussed. These professionals act as mentors of the participating artists through studio visits and working meetings. At the end of the residency the participants take part in a group exhibition in a Manhattan gallery.

For this year’s ISP, Whitney Museum has selected Spanish artist Daniel Cerrejón, who is taking part with the support of the AC/E Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture.
