Miercurea Ciuc Early Music Festival 2018

Miercurea Ciuc Early Music Festival 2018

Since 1980, the Early Music Festival in Miercurea Ciuc brings together every summer 150-250 musicians from all over Europe, from emerging artists to acknowledged professionals. They celebrate the colorful European Early Music for a week together with their audience in this charming little town in Transylvania, playing historical instruments in the old Mikó-castle, in churches, cafés and in the streets; also students can improve their performing skills during the Early Music Summer Univeristy.

The main topic of this year's edition is the Spanish early music. With the support of AC/E, they have invited Capella de Ministrers who will present different aspects, from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque, of the music from Spain. Their concert will be performed on the 15 July at the Miko Castle and it's a highlight of the festival's programme this year.

The Miercurea Ciuc Early Music Festival, organized since 1980, is one of the first early music festivals in Eastern Europe. The festival’s mission is to expand the presence of early music and the authentic interpretation throughout the cultural life, and to create a venue for contemporary interpretation of early music.

For the edition of 2018 also participates Les Paladins from France, Quoniam and Modo Antiquo from Italy, Tercina, Capella Eszterházy and Musica Historica from Hungary, Il Cigno from Germany. The Baroque Festival Orchestra is a musical project of the festival and a unique initiative in Romania. In this year the Baroque Festival Orchestra together with the Baroque Festival Choir will present St. Matthew Passion by J. S. Bach.
The concert of Capella de Ministrers from Spain on the 15 July will be a highlight of the festival's program this year.
