Protected Art (eBook)

This book shows the operation that transfer, part of Spanish country’s art treasures to Switzerland to save them from the serious danger of destruction during the Civil war. Among them were the masterpieces from the Museo del Prado. An exhibition consisting chiefly of photographs and documents is now returning to the city that housed the former League of Nations in order to pay tribute to the huge cultural protection effort that ensured the survival of Spain’s best artistic legacy. The operation staged by the authorities of the Spanish Republic to preserve this heritage is an example, even at the most dramatic moments, of a passion for culture that continues to be relevant to today’s world in which some countries are still torn by the same irrationality that mutilated the heritage and, consequently, the soul of our nation and that of the rest of our continent decades ago.
