Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) is a public entity dedicated to promoting and fostering Spain’s culture and heritage, both within and beyond its borders.
Through a wide-ranging program of activities spanning from historical heritage to emerging creation, AC/E works to consolidate culture as an essential cornerstone of our country's reality and image.
We project the diversity and richness of the Spanish contribution to global culture, supporting the endeavors of our most contemporary creators across sectors ranging from visual, performing, and audiovisual arts to literature, music, architecture, design, heritage, and digital culture.
We develop a cross-cutting strategy to connect national talent with the world's main cultural hubs through:
Professional Mobility: Programs and initiatives specifically designed to foster the internationalization and exchange of creators and industry professionals.
Transdisciplinary Projects: Production and support of exhibitions, congresses, lecture series, film, theater, music, and digital innovation initiatives.
Network Building: Strategic alliances with international institutions to ensure a solid and continuous presence of Spanish culture abroad.
Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) was born from the merger of three state-owned societies dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of Spanish culture both within and beyond our borders.
The decision to merge the three societies was adopted by the Council of Ministers on April 30, 2010. The new society was officially established on December 2, 2010, as part of the Public Business Sector Rationalization Plan, whose primary objective was to reduce state expenditure and streamline the Public Administration.
The three previous societies were originally created with very specific purposes:
Dedicated to recovering and disseminating Spain's historical, cultural, and scientific memory through exhibitions, congresses, and publications.
Focused on positioning contemporary Spanish creation on the international stage and weaving sustainable networks among professionals.
In charge of managing Spain's presence at world expos, whose last major undertaking was the Spain Pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo.
