Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image, and the Embassy of France in Spain present the resolution for the latest edition of the residency for a comic creator in Angoulême, France. This initiative aims to foster creative production, promote the international mobility of Spanish authors, and strengthen cultural ties between both countries.
Following the jury's evaluation of the submitted proposals, illustrator and comic author Theo Corral (known on social media as @malorde) has been selected to undertake this six-month residency (from January to June 2027) at La Casa de los Autores (La Maison des Auteurs), where he will develop his upcoming graphic project.
Meet the Resident: Theo Corral (@malorde)
Theo Corral (alias Theo Malorde) is an illustrator, comic artist, and fanzine author. Born in Tíjola (Almería), he has been living in Madrid since 2017, where he moved to study illustration at the Artediez Art School. His work, consisting mostly of autobiographical comics, is deeply infused with themes such as nostalgia, a sense of belonging, and shifting identities.
Since 2019, he has been a regular participant in independent comic and fanzine fairs, including Pichifest, Autozine, Guindazine, and Fanzimad in Madrid; GRAF and Oh!Cómics in Barcelona; Autoband in A Coruña; and Skisomic in Seville, among many others. He combines this creative activity with freelance illustration work, having collaborated in the past with institutions such as the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Cuba, 21distritos, and Oxford University Press. In 2025, he published his fanzine "He escrito sobre ti, ahora vivirás para siempre" (I've Written About You, Now You'll Live Forever) with La Granja Editorial, and he is currently working on his first full-length book, his debut graphic novel.
About the Residency
The resident will receive a monthly financial allowance of 1,300 euros for living expenses, round-trip travel coverage from Spain, accommodation in the center of Angoulême, and access to a fully equipped studio workshop at La Maison des Auteurs. This environment is designed to facilitate the creation of a graphic novel project distinguished by its artistic and innovative value.
The application window closed on May 18, 2026. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the graphic creators who participated in this call and shared their talent and proposals.
