Mercè Sellarès, Artist in Residence at La Maison des Auteurs in Angoulême 2026 with AC/E Support
Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image (Angoulême) are organizing this six-month artistic residency at La Maison des Auteurs in Angoulême (France), for which Spanish comic author Mercè Sellarès has been selected. The residency will take place from January to June 2026.
This residency's main objective is to foster creation in the specific field of comics, facilitating the development of projects selected for their artistic quality and innovative character. It also seeks to promote the creation of international collaboration networks, encourage the mobility of national creators abroad, stimulate creative production, and strengthen ties between cultural institutions in France and Spain.
Mercè Sellarès, a 2024 ENSAD graduate, has a background in illustration, animation, and self-publishing. Her work moves between digital and analog realms, revealing a clear fascination with the retro, the obsolete, and nostalgia.
During her residency in Angoulême, Mercè Sellarès will develop a project provisionally titled “Espositos o Ínsulas Extrañas,” a work that promises to immerse the reader in the peculiar atmosphere of a convent inhabited by nuns, exploring her unique narrative and visual style within this fertile context for comic creation.
The selection of Mercè Sellarès underscores the commitment of AC/E and the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image to fostering emerging talent and promoting creative diversity within the Spanish and international comic scene.
