Directors Juan Antonio Moreno Amador and Silvia Venegas participate with their documentary "Boxing for Freedom" at the 15th Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival (China) with the support of Acción Cultural Español, AC/E. This event is the only one in China dedicated exclusively to the documentary genre and receives more than 1,000 international visitors annually among directors, producers, distributors and televisions. This year the festival has selected 100 documentaries from the 4,059 entries received from 111 countries.
The documentary "Boxing for Freedom" has been produced by Making DOC and tells the story of the best woman fighter in Afghanistan, Sadaf Rahimi, who must confront the traditions of her country, fear and her own destiny to be a free woman. A struggle that will make her a point of reference for many young Afghans. The film has participated in 90 festivals around the world and was selected for the European Film Awards in the category of Best European Documentary.
The festival has also selected the short film "Palabras de Caramelo", directed by Moreno Amador. The film is a docu-fiction that tells the story of friendship between a deaf child and his best friend, the Caramelo camel, in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria. The short film has participated in more than 80 festivals where it has obtained more than 20 awards and was nominated for the Goya for Best Documentary Short Film.
Established in 2003, GZDOC is hosted by State Administration of Press and Publication,Radio, Film and Television and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, operated by Global Raytur International Public Communication Organization. GZDOC has grown from an academic seminar with only 147 entries from around 10 countries, to one of the most influential professional documentary film festival in the world, receiving 4059 entries from 111 countries and regions.
