Begoña M. Rueda | Writers' Residency at the Toji Cultural Foundation 2025

Begoña M. Rueda Selected as Writer in Residence for Toji Cultural Foundation 2025 in Seoul

2 July 2025 – Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and the Toji Cultural Foundation in Seoul, with the support and participation of the Residencia de Estudiantes, announce that Begoña M. Rueda (Jaén, Spain, 1992) has been selected for the Toji Residency 2025. This program, aimed at writers with an accredited literary career and whose primary sphere of action and creation is in Spain, seeks to promote cultural exchange between Spain and Korea.

For two months, between September and October 2025, Begoña M. Rueda will enjoy a suitable living and working space at the Toji Cultural Foundation, allowing her to continue the development of an already initiated literary project. The residency not only offers a conducive environment for creation but also encourages networking with other creators and access to the cultural resources provided by both the Toji Cultural Foundation and the vibrant city of Seoul.

Begoña M. Rueda is a prominent figure in contemporary Spanish poetry, author of twelve poetry collections, every single one of which has received awards. Among her most recognized works are Error 404 (XLVI Ciudad de Burgos Poetry Prize, Visor 2020), Servicio de lavandería (XXXVI Hiperión Poetry Prize, Hiperión 2021), La mujer okupada (XXIX Ciudad de Córdoba Ricardo Molina Prize, Cántico 2022), and Exitus (XXXVIII Antonio Oliver Belmás International Poetry Prize, Pretextos 2024).

Her career also includes participation in prestigious residencies such as the Óbidos Residency for writers and translators from Granada UNESCO City of Literature (Óbidos, Portugal), the XXI Antonio Gala Foundation (Córdoba, Spain), and the II Los Tientos de la UGR 2023 Creation Residency Program (Granada, Spain). Furthermore, she has participated in various poetry festivals such as Cosmopoética (Córdoba, 2017 and 2022), Poex (Gijón, 2021), La dignitat de la Paraula (Elche, 2023), and FILE (Calera de León, Badajoz, 2023), among many others.

These types of residencies are crucial as they allow creators to participate in international collaborative networks, while empowering the organizing bodies to promote international mobility, foster national creative production, and strengthen ties between cultural institutions in Korea and Spain. The Toji Residency 2025 is a clear example of AC/E's commitment to projecting Spanish literary talent globally.

This is a cross-residency program, and as such, a Korean writer specializing in children's literature, Kim Hyun-rae, has also been selected.
