Álex Martín Rod Selected for the AC/E – CAPACETE 2026 Residency in Rio de Janeiro

12 may 2026

The Andalusian curator and researcher Álex Martín Rod has been selected to participate in the prestigious international program at the CAPACETE contemporary art center in Brazil. This collaboration, part of the residency program for creators by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), will allow the researcher to develop a three-month project in Rio de Janeiro during the second half of 2026.

A Profile Focused on Mediation and Critical Thought

Álex Martín Rod stands out for a career that links contemporary art, performance, and the study of social structures. He is currently developing a doctoral thesis focused on how political discourse has evolved from the 1990s toward more poetic languages.

His recent milestones include co-directing Arquitecturas Deseantes, a nomadic festival investigating the intersections between flamenco and queer ecologies, and curating the Art Explora International Festival in Málaga (En la quiebre de la mar de Alborán, 2024). His experience includes serving on the curatorial team of TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary and participating in the 2025 Shanghai Curatorial Lab.

About the Residency: "Technologies of Approximation"

During his 12-week stay , Martín Rod will integrate into the ecosystem of CAPACETE, the oldest artistic residency institution in Brazil. Under the direction of Rubens Takamine, the 2026 cycle will explore the concept of "technologies of approximation," a thematic axis that seeks to recover ancestral knowledge and rituals as tools for contemporary coexistence.

The residency provides the selected participant with not only workspace and accommodation but also a deep immersion into the local scene through seminars, visits to artists' studios, and personalized tutoring.

AC/E's Commitment to International Mobility

This initiative reinforces AC/E's goal of creating solid networks between Spanish professionals and leading international institutions. By providing comprehensive support that covers travel, living expenses, and medical insurance, the program ensures that Spanish researchers and curators have optimal conditions for the exchange of aesthetic and social processes in the South American context.
