Juana Robles | Cinematographic Creation Residency BAICC 2025 at LIFT

Juana Robles, New Resident of the (S8) and LIFT Film Creation Initiative

Experimental filmmaker Juana Robles has been selected for the film creation residency organized by (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico, LIFT-Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto, and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E). This program supports emerging creators by offering them the opportunity to produce an analog audiovisual piece in Toronto, Canada.

Born in Tortosa in 1983 and currently living in Kilkenny, Ireland, Juana Robles is known for her work that explores the body, identity, and memory through immersive and tactile cinema. Her films, often shot on formats like 16mm and Super 8, blur the lines between personal and collective stories, drawing inspiration from performance and ritual. Robles is a co-founder of Out of Focus, an experimental film initiative in Kilkenny, and has presented her work internationally.

Comprehensive Support for Creation

During her stay, which will last between four and six uninterrupted weeks from September to October 2025, Juana Robles will receive comprehensive support that includes:

- Round-trip travel to Toronto.
- Access to LIFT's facilities and technical equipment.
- A weekly stipend of 400 euros.
- An additional 800 euros for production, covering film stock, development, and other costs.
- This residency will allow Robles to deepen her artistic exploration, using the tools and environment Toronto offers to produce a new work in analog formats.
