Filmmaker and audiovisual artist Emiliano Reyes has been selected to participate in the tenth edition of the BAICC program with his project The Toronto Symphony Orchestra conducting Tchaikovsky (1945). His proposal was chosen from among twenty submissions by the evaluation committee—composed of representatives from Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), the Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico (S8), and the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT)—for this analogue filmmaking residency open call.
BAICC is a program designed to open new pathways for emerging creators, facilitating exchange with internationally renowned institutions. The initiative promotes excellence in filmmaking through training, the use of specialized technical resources, and the dissemination of works shot in analogue formats (35mm, 16mm, Super 16mm, 8mm, or Super 8mm).
About the Project: The Toronto Symphony Orchestra conducting Tchaikovsky (1945)
The winning project is structured around structuralist principles and the reinterpretation of found footage from a 16mm piece shot in Toronto in 1945. It is a technically sophisticated, innovative, and refreshing proposal that embraces visual abstraction and tactile intervention. The film will transmute into an abstract choreography of rhythmic light, rubbed grain, and kinetic textures, where the visual collapse of the image will run parallel to the dramatic intensity of Tchaikovsky’s composition.
The artistic residency will take place over four weeks between September and October 2026 at the LIFT facilities in Toronto (Canada). The result of Emiliano Reyes's work, conceived as a multi-screen installation featuring three 16mm projectors, will have its world premiere during the XVIII Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico (S8) in June 2027, in A Coruña (Spain).
