Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and the Ministry of Culture are co-organizing Spain's participation as the Guest of Honour at the 28th edition of the São Paulo International Book Biennial, to be held from September 4 to 13, 2026.
This event, created by the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL) and organized by RX Global, is established as the third most important book fair in the world. It represents a strategic platform for the creative and publishing sectors, facilitating professional exchange and direct contact with the reading public in one of Ibero-America's most dynamic markets.
The Project: A Space for Encounter
Following the successful model achieved at recent international book fairs where Spain was the Guest of Honour (such as Frankfurt, Guadalajara, and Bogotá), the Spanish presence in São Paulo will feature a stand of up to 500 m² located in the most prominent area of the venue. This space will not only house the current literary and publishing offerings but will also serve as a stage for a diverse cultural program, including author encounters, roundtables, and professional activities.
Curatorship: Marta Sanz Pastor
The conceptual proposal and literary program for Spain are under the curatorship of the renowned writer, professor, and literary critic Marta Sanz Pastor.
Holding a PhD in Contemporary Literature, Sanz has an exceptional literary career, recognized with awards such as the Herralde Novel Prize (2015) for Farándula, the Cálamo "Otra mirada" Prize (2013) for Daniela Astor y la caja negra, and the Tigre Juan Prize. Her work as a professor at the Antonio de Nebrija University in Madrid and her regular contributions to media outlets such as El País (Babelia) and Público provide a comprehensive and transversal vision to the Spanish presence at the Biennial.
Participation of AC/E
Acción Cultural Española takes on a fundamental role in the technical and economic execution of the project, being responsible for:
Managing and paying the participation fee as Guest of Honour.
The design, construction, and integral production of the Spain Pavilion.
Developing the graphic identity and communication strategy.
Technical coordination in direct collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.
This joint effort aims to strengthen cultural ties between Spain and Brazil, promoting the internationalization of our authors and the Spanish publishing industry in a global context.
