Hay Festival Wales 2026 (38th Edition)

Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) supports the participation of Spanish creators Carmen Urbita and Ana Garriga (the Las Hijas de Felipe collective) at the 38th edition of the Hay Festival in Wales.

About the Project

The Hay Festival Wales is a world-renowned cultural event that celebrates arts and sciences through inclusive, accessible, and playful encounters. Defined by its social commitment and the promotion of critical thinking, the festival transforms the town of Hay-on-Wye into a privileged space for the exchange of ideas through talks, workshops, concerts, and readings.

In this 38th edition, the festival maintains its interactive focus, fostering direct dialogue between international experts and the audience across diverse fields such as literature, science, journalism, and human rights.

Spanish Presence: Las Hijas de Felipe

As part of the strategic collaboration between AC/E and the Hay Festival organization for 2026, Spain will be represented by the collective Las Hijas de Felipe, consisting of Carmen Urbita and Ana Garriga.

Carmen Urbita: Holds a PhD in Hispanic Literatures and Cultural Studies from Brown University and a Master’s in Comparative Literature from the University of Oxford.

Ana Garriga: Specialist in the literature and culture of early Hispanic modernity. She holds a PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid and Brown University, with extensive research on the letters of Teresa de Jesús.

Together, they have revolutionized cultural outreach with their focus on the history and literature of the 16th and 17th centuries, exploring the curiosities and realities of the modern era from a contemporary and rigorous perspective.

Objectives of AC/E Support

This collaboration is part of a global support programme for the international editions of the Hay Festival, aimed at increasing the visibility and international promotion of the Spanish creative sector. AC/E assists in the selection of participating professionals and co-finances the expenses derived from their presence at the festival, ensuring that Spanish culture maintains an active role in the most relevant global debates.
