The Hay Festival Querétaro is a cultural and ideas festival for all audiences that celebrates arts and sciences through inclusive, accessible, and engaging events. Its program includes talks, workshops, concerts, and readings with international experts in fields such as literature, visual arts, science, environment, cinema, music, human rights, and journalism, among other topics.
For this tenth edition of the Festival, AC/E supports the participation in various scheduled activities of the following Spanish authors:
Bibiana Collado Cabrera (Burriana, 1985) is a Spanish writer and poet recognized for her exploration of themes such as class inequality, gender violence, and female identity. With a degree in Hispanic Philology and a doctorate in Hispanic American Literature, she combines her teaching work with a literary career that spans both poetry and narrative. Her work is characterized by a critical and committed approach that seeks to highlight contemporary social realities. Her latest novel, "Yeguas exhaustas" (2023), is a narrative that addresses bodily wounds, class differences, and classism in the cultural world, exploring access to the job market and university endogamy.
Javier Peña (A Coruña, 1979) is a Galician writer and journalist who has transitioned from sports journalism and political speechwriting to literary narrative. After his debut with "Infelices" (2019), a satire on the publishing industry, and his second novel "Agnes" (2021), Peña has solidified his own voice that combines humor, introspection, and cultural criticism. He is also the creator of the literary podcast Grandes infelices, where he explores the lives of writers marked by misfortune and genius. His latest book, "Tinta invisible" (2024), is his most personal work: a narrative essay that intertwines the grief over his father's death with a reflection on the transformative power of stories. Elvira Sastre (Segovia, 1992) is a Spanish poet and writer renowned for her intimate and emotive style that has captivated a wide young audience. Her work is part of the new contemporary poetry movement, characterized by accessible yet profound language. Among her most notable books are "Cuarenta y tres maneras de soltarse el pelo" (2014), "Ya nadie baila" (2015), and "La soledad de un cuerpo acostumbrado a la herida" (2016), where she explores themes such as love, loss, and identity. Her novel "Días sin ti" (2019), for which she won the Premio Biblioteca Breve, marked a shift towards narrative while maintaining her characteristic poetic tone. Sastre has also collaborated with musicians and visual artists, solidifying her presence in the current cultural landscape. Additionally, she has worked as a translator of poets such as Oscar Wilde and Rupi Kaur. Her poetry has been translated into several languages, expanding her international impact.
