Open call
On the occasion of Spain's participation as a Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2021, Acción Cultural Española has created these translation grants to promote Spanish literary works among foreign publishers.
Application Deadline: 10 December 2019
The AC/E translation grants seeks to encourage the sale of rights to foreign publishers and to publish Spanish literary creations, thus favoring their international visibility and recognition. The accepted languages for translations are German, English, French, Dutch and Italian.
There are two lines of grants:
1. AC/E Grants for Translation and in Support of Illustration for foreign publishers.
2. Grants for translation of samples for the preparation of dossiers of foreign promotion, for Spanish publishers and agents.
Both types of grants have different guidelines and application forms (see below ↓).
Applications can only be made for works published by Spanish publishers as a printed book and with commercial distribution in bookstores in the following modalities:
- narrative (fiction, nonfiction)
- essay
- poetry
- theater, drama
- YA literature
- illustrated album
- graphic novel
- comic
In the case of illustrated works and graphic novel, additional help may be requested for the illustrator's fees.
AC/E will not fund scholarly works, schoolbooks, exhibition catalogues, unpublished and self-published works, travel guides, research studies, minutes of congresses, manuals, digital-only and/or print-on-demand works, and similar categories.
