Spain's participation in the 2025 Osaka Expo represents a unique opportunity to showcase the innovation, creativity, and sustainability that characterize our country. With the theme "The Kuroshio Current," the Spain pavilion seeks to connect with visitors through an immersive experience that celebrates the relationship between Spain and the sea.
Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), a public entity responsible for managing Spain's presence at World and International Exhibitions, organises the Spain Pavilion and Spain's activities at Expo Osaka 2025. In 2023, AC/E held a public competition, and the architecture and design firms Néstor Montenegro, Enorme Studio, and Smart and Green Design were awarded the commission to create the Spain Pavilion at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka.
This participation in the 2025 Osaka Expo represents a unique opportunity to showcase the innovation, creativity, and sustainability that characterize Spain.
Key features of the Spain Pavilion
- Nature-inspired design: The pavilion took the Kuroshio Current as its reference—a powerful ocean current that influenced the climate and biodiversity of Japan. Its architectural design, by the studios Néstor Montenegro, Enorme Studio, and Smart and Green Design, evoked the organic forms of the sea and the sun's energy.
- Sustainability: The pavilion was constructed with recycled and renewable materials, minimizing its environmental impact. Additionally, efficient energy solutions were implemented to reduce energy consumption.
- Immersive experience: Visitors enjoyed a multisensory experience that transported them along the Spanish coast, from the beaches of Galicia to the Mediterranean. Projections, sounds, and interactions explored topics such as marine biodiversity, the blue economy, and the fight against climate change.
- Cultural content: TThe pavilion also accommodated Spanish artistic and cultural expressions, highlighting the country's rich history and traditions.
Objectives of Spain's participation
- Showcase Spanish innovation: The pavilion presented the latest trends in science, technology, and design, as well as the solutions Spain offered to global challenges.
- Foster international collaboration: The participation established strategic alliances with other countries and international organizations to address common challenges.
- Promote Spain as a tourist destination: The pavilion raised awareness of Spain's cultural and natural diversity, as well as its rich gastronomy.
- Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: The entire project demonstrated Spain's commitment to sustainability and sustainable development.
